T&W: Feather-like frost and the tallest moose

View online…

My sincerest apologies for this newsletter coming to you a day late. I blame a combination of fatigue and the wonderful realization when I woke up Saturday morning that I didn’t have anything urgent on my to-do list. Which meant instead of newsletters, bagels and coffee were my only priority. I hope you too are having a lovely weekend!

This week I learned…

  • Scientists have found a way to use WIFI to “see” a person through a wall. They can use the technology to track people’s movements, detecting even the subtlest of gestures such as a high five.
  • A New Jersey-based company is bringing back the milkman model to reduce waste. It is partnering with big brands to deliver items such as shampoo or laundry detergent in reusable containers right to your door.
  • The Welsh word “Barrug” means the fine and feather-like frost that forms when water vapor freezes quickly on surfaces.

By the numbers…

  • 61,000 km/h: The speed at which a meteorite hit the moon during last week’s lunar eclipse.
  • 32: The number of cameras and microphones installed by Sky News to livestream its reporters on a dedicated channel call “Sky News Raw.”
  • 1,000: Roughly how many journalists lost their jobs this week due to massive layoffs in the U.S.
